Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was a famous fashion designer who unfortunately passed away in February 2010.

These designs are from McQueen's Fall 2009 collection. He was known for unique and out-of-this-world runway shows. Many of these models fashioned clothes with odd cuts and headdresses. In addition, most of the models had make-up on like that of a clown. Even the patterns, shapes, and colors used resemble a clown uniform (especially the first picture). The last picture on this blog features a woman who looks bird like with the black feathers and the wing like features.

It was said that McQueen always tried use "rebellion and fantasy" in his fashion. The clown like figures and the animal replica definitely defines rebellion and fantasy.
He enjoyed unconventional ways and always struck up some arguments and controversies with some of his fashions and collection titles. For example, he named one of his collections Highland Rape and he is famous for the "bumsters" which

was a low rise trouser.

The women in these pictures look empty and it seems as though the clothes are expressing their emotions and feelings for them.

I appreciate his work and it is truly fascinating to look at.

  1. This is certainly interesting. I have never seen fashion like that of Alexander McQueen's. I can imagine that some of the styles can cause a bit of an uproar with how extreme they are. Also the faces of the models say a lot about the clothing itself. Just as you said, "they look empty." They certainly do. The models look almost as if they have had their souls taken away from them, and by naming a collection "Highland Rape" it makes one wonder. That is quite a name to call a fashion collection, and I just do not understand why you would want to name your designs about rape. On another note he certainly expresses individuality and uniqueness.

  2. I believe I've heard of McQueen, but never actually seen his work. I can appreciate the hard work that must have been put into this fashion, but I can't possibly imagine someone walking down the street wearing something like this.
Why present something that no one is going to wear?

  3. Bram, I feel as if most of the fashion these days that goes down the runway is so out there and many people will never wear it. Who wants to by an outfit with huge feathers on their back and honestly wear it in public? No body I know! I think they present these things just to show off their talents and let everyone see how crazy and unique they can ultimately be.
